jadanner1 I am digging this EP. "No better me." is so different from what I was expecting. (Although I really didn't have an expectation. I try to be open to where an artist will go on a new project.) But I dig your new direction. Musically, it is quite different than "Bad, bad days" and it is a good thing.

uh I been so hot I got cold I been so well I got sick Lock me up and never let me run out of your house into a dark street I can tell by the streetlamp light this isn't gonna be quick I been so blind that I see I been so deaf that I heard your mouth movin' an ancient ruin a click, a clack, a thunderbird coming down the highway, but I'm standing in the lane refuse to change I refuse to change I came back to your room you went to bed six hours ago left me to my own devices you're waking up with your expectations your light is shining brightly on my unshaven face and I can't explain why I thought you were the one It seems so simple when I see it in the sunlight that's the trouble we all fall in love in the nighttime and I can't explain why I thought you were the one It seems so simple when I see it in the sunlight that's the trouble we all fall in love in the nighttime

Waking up at the bottom of the heap I'm waiting for something to steep Black coffee, got the black coffee blues if it's the kinda day I think it is gonna need a pretty strong brew ignorance was bliss, at least that was true for me now I have a significant amount of other things to be Black coffee, got the black coffee blues if it's the kinda day I think it is gonna need a pretty strong brew cradling my little coffee pot since now its just about all I got Black coffee, got the black coffee blues if it's the kinda day I think it is gonna need a pretty strong brew

time moving on, so I let it go Lady of my mind, loved you so. I took it for granted I got myself planted on the ground now I'm back in New York Had a rainy day, so I let it go Mind ran away, so I let it go and it took a while to see another smile but i'm smiling, smiling back in New York see the way the city breathes and spreads its wings to the sky see the way you couldn't see the awkward beauty of the fight I fell in love but I let it go I fell I fell I fell I fell in love before Mmm. with city dreams and now it seems I'm dreaming I dream my dream of New York (whistle solo) all of my city dreams and now it seems I'm dreaming I dream my dream of New York

Oh don't you write another truth or dare Oh don't you know? On don't you care? Oh don't you write another truth or dare me to look, dare me to see dare me to be the man you wanted me to be dare me to look, dare me to see dare me to be the man you wanted me to be you wanted me to be, you didn't want me you didn't want me, you didn't want me you didn't want me, Mmm Imagination of a situation carrying me, aah, Imagine the captain lost his ship Imagine the captain sinking quick Imagine the captain lost his ship Imagine the captain sinking quick

Rollin' 02:32
Nighttime in the city I don't wanna see Nighttime in the city Stop smilin' at me Stop smilin' at me Honey you know where I want to be Nighttime in the garden Still pulling up weeds Nighttime in the garden Stop smilin' at me Stop smilin' at me Honey you know where I want to be I wanna be rollin' I wanna be rollin' Stop smilin' at me Stop smilin' at me Honey you know where I want to be

take this trick and make it vanish carryin' pain and anguish from long, from long ago bag of tricks is getting heavy things I need to do to carry this load, carry this load I wanna go deeper with you, but I'm holding right back from the truth I wanna go deeper with you, but I'm holding right back from the truth take my music and my time take my words and make 'em rhyme, a potion, a magic potion flows just when you open up your eyes make myself vanish and you cry, oh I, I get down the road I wanna go deeper with you, but I'm holding right back from the truth I wanna go deeper with you, but I'm holding right back from the truth Deeper with you that's where I want to be Deeper with you how can I say it honestly? I know this trick will never vanish, took your love and made it anguish so long, so long ago. I wanna go deeper with you, but I'm holding right back from the truth I wanna go deeper with you, but I'm holding right back from the truth

Only your vote can help us now Only your vote can help us now Let there be no doubt Together We Can Vote Him Out I been looking forward to a brighter day When I can wash all my worries away That brighter day is comin, it’s just around the bend There’s one thing you’ve got to do, my friend The burdens we’ve been carrying together are so great Virus, sickness, climate change - got A lot on our plate When we go to the ballot box we start to do the work We’re gonna speak for democracy on November third We’re seven days away But let’s not be afraid We can still win, we can still try, to make the future clear and bright Take ourselves to new heights

so afraid to look like a fool again so beaten up inside I try to get out of my own skin but there's no place I can hide reopen old wounds violate the tombs the ancients they say can't go on this way the words that are pouring out of me aren't the ones Inside my head I'm so damn nervous I try to scream I bite my tongue and let it bleed reopen old wounds violate the tombs the threads in the tapestry come apart so easily are you talking to me are you talking to me I've been waiting to hear your voice picking it out of all the noise
9.
I'm keeping up appearances Hanging on by a thread still I'm keeping it together Keeping it together and I've got no regret still if I don't find something soon to get me out of this room I might stop hanging on- what have I got to lose? I'm seeing temptation - it follows me everywhere I go Still I'm keeping it together, keeping it together you never would know when I look into a stranger's eyes everything starts coming alive I keep hanging on, I think I'm losing the fight If I told you everything I went through Tore apart the picture you drew would you keep me hanging on, or would you cut me loose?

about

Over the summer, a book by Pema Chodron called "When Things Fall Apart” told me that “there is no better you waiting out there who will one day make an appearance.” I've faced a lot of demons this year. I have learned to give them love. I believe these songs are the result of that embrace.

The songs were recorded to my Tascam Portastudio 4-track tape recorder from the '80s. Then they were transferred into my 2009 MacBook, and then mix-tested on the stereo in my 1987 Ford van. I love the way old things work and sound.

At first I thought of waiting until these songs were “fully produced” to release them - but what even is that anymore? I realized the world is inside out, and so am I.

Kip Lacy played synths, drums, and bass on tracks 3 and 5 and I want to thank him for making them feel and sound special.
